Oro was hands down one of the most unexpectedly fun experiences we’ve had. This is largely due to the creativity that goes into their one of a kind drink menu. They have a great spot in the Raleigh food scene and can cater to many different groups. They recently refinished parts of the interior and offer catering to the public giving them great versatility.
They are a tapas style restaurant with other offerings like their Jamaica themed “Breakfast on the Islands” brunch. We tried so many great options like the octopus, smoked cauliflower, smoky ribs, and the jerk lamb chops. All of these were very delicious and stood on their own as a truly great meal. They also offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.
The drinks are what truly sets Oro apart in the cocktail category unlike anywhere we’ve had the privilege to sample so far. Oro’s attention to detail is second to none. From the three week old menu, we had a rye based old fashioned “Smoke and Mirrors” presented in a garnished smoke box. The smoke came out from the door and and made for great conversation as well as a great drink. We also had the “Shake your Tail Feather” which was presented in a feather bird glass with honey, tequila, hummingbird bitters. The hand blown glass was carefully selected from the Czech Republic. We also, had the “Black Beard’s Treasure” cocktail which was served in a closed treasure chest which opened into the tropical rum based cocktail served on black sand with smooth sea stones, shells, and even a starfish. We ended the evening with a great rendition of s’mores cooked with a marshmallow over a candle dipped in chocolate sauce and rolled into fine graham cracker crumbs. Perfect finish!
The decor is eye catching with chandeliers and sconces custom made from recycled beer bottles and a custom wooden wine rack which opens and closes with a remote control.
The cocktails truly are what set this place apart but they also have event space, offer diverse catering, and fine dining that are top notch. It’s a great spot and gets a high recommendation from Feasts & Spirits.
